Every woman dreams of losing the extra pounds gained during pregnancy, the same moment the baby is born. Unfortunately that is not the case and losing the excess weight is very difficult for all women.

Some of the factors that contribute to weight gaining are the size of the newborn baby, the breast tissue, the amniotic fluid and placenta, enlarged uterus and fat stores. The maximum weight that can be lost during childbirth is up to 12 pounds, and it includes the baby size, the placenta and amniotic fluid.

The uterus needs six weeks until it shrinks back to its normal pre-pregnancy size. It is logical that you won’t reduce your belly a lot during this period.

Follow these steps and lose baby weight fast

1 – Be Realistic
Be realistic and have in consideration your pre-pregnancy weight. If you had normal weight, and gained around 25-30 pounds, it should take you more or less two months to get back to your normal weight. On the other hand, if you had above the normal weight or gained more weight during pregnancy, it will take longer time to lose those extra pounds.

2 – Take Your Time
The body needs time to recuperate from giving birth. In fact, it is not suggested to lose weight immediately after delivery since you might need more time for recovery. Be aware that giving birth is something your body needs time to recover from.

3 – Breastfeeding
It will come as a surprise when you see how much weight you reduce by breastfeeding. However, if you breastfeed, the quantity and the quality of the milk may be affected by your diet, so it is suggested that you lose a pound and a half per week. You should be careful and plan your diet after you stop breastfeeding because you will not need so many calories and by eating a lot you can gain weight.

4 – A Healthy Diet Plan
  • Remember  to eat! If you eat less you are going to have less energy. You should eat 5 to 6 times a day (small helpings) and have healthy snacks in between the meals.
• Don’t skip breakfast! It provides the body with energy and prevents exhaustion.
  • Eat slowly! The chances to overeat are smaller because you will know when you are full.
  • Use fat- free dairy products!
  • Eat fruits and vegetables for your snacks
• Drink a lot of of liquids! You need to drink 8-9 glasses of liquids per day.Steer away from sugary drinks.
  • Steer away from fried foods.
• Cut down on sugar and fat.

5 – Exercise
You should also have an exercise plan to go along with your healthy diet. However, you should start with low-intensity exercises and then move to exercises with higher intensity.

6 – Sleep as much as you can
If you get enough sleep you won’t be craving for foods that are high in calories for energy. Irregular sleep can also distort your metabolism and make reducing weight a tough job. By taking naps every time your baby does, you won’t have a sleep deficit and you’ll keep your energy and cravings balanced.
